TutorDudes is a specialized 1-on-1 tutoring company specifically geared towards students looking to improve in the areas of mathematics and/or science. TutorDudes allocates part of its funds from our premier “Tutoring Program” to directly benefit our flagship Community Program, where we provide the local public school students excellent supplementary tutoring and mentorship in math and science. Unlike other tutoring companies, we carefully screen tutors for qualities that best match our philosophy here at TutorDudes. We like to keep things small, personal and community-driven. Meet the TutorDudes!

Brice P. Vallieres, Founder and Tutoring Program Director of TutorDudes, graduated with honors from Trinity (CT) with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in models and data. As an undergraduate, Brice studied Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Theory as a research assistant, played on the Men’s Varsity Soccer team and was also named the John A. Nicholas ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ his senior year. Since then, Brice has joined the Georgetown University Medical Center as a research technician in an immunology lab and has completed a Master’s in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University. In the past 2 years, Brice has mentored students toward acceptances into their top choice schools, increased course scores by up to 20 points and has managed to recruit the most skilled math and science educators in the DC area – all of which have gone on to esteemed graduate programs, medical schools and/or lucrative professional careers.

Matthew Miller, the Community Program Director and Lead Math and Economics Tutor for TutorDudes, is a graduate of Dartmouth College. As an undergraduate, Matt was a James O. Freedman Presidential Scholar in recognition of his research in macroeconomics. He was a study group leader and tutor for various economics and mathematics classes, and was awarded Honors in Economics for his coursework. Matt was also voted High Honors in Mathematics for his thesis, which used network analysis to investigate industrial interdependence. Matt graduated cum laude, and was a member of the Varsity Soccer team and the Alpha Delta fraternity. Currently, Matt is working as a consultant at Edgeworth Economics located in the Dupont area.

Justin Sweeney, Regional Director of TutorDudes Boston, graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science with Honors from Trinity College (CT). While at Trinity, Justin worked as a tutor at the Aetna Quantitative Center at Trinity College, mentoring his peers in a variety of mathematical subjects. Since graduation Justin has worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a Software Developer. Mike Kheyfets has a B.A. (with magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors) and an M.A. in economics from Boston University. He is currently working as a consultant at Edgeworth Economics, a small startup firm located near Dupont Circle. Mike’s academic and professional experiences have taught him the importance of being able to explain difficult concepts in a simple and clear way. As a student, he tutored both undergraduate and graduate students in various topics in math and economics. As a consultant, he works on complex issues in law and economics, which he presents in an easily understandable way to colleagues and clients. Mike brings his solid understanding of the material and the same ability to clearly present and explain a variety of topics to his tutoring approach.

Tayla Martin has a B.A. in Mathematics from Dartmouth College and is currently working as an analyst at Dean & Company in Vienna, VA. At Dartmouth, Tayla taught SAT math courses at a local New Hampshire high school from her freshman through senior years and served as a Co-director. She was also Finance Director and service trip participant for the Dartmouth Global Leadership Program, which included a two week trip to rural Honduras where she taught basic accounting and life skills courses to local teens. Prior to her current position in consulting, Tayla interned extensively in the non-profit and finance sectors. Tayla sleeps in her TD T every night.

Miguel Garrido is a recent graduate of Princeton University, where he majored in Economics and earned a Certificate in Political Economy. His undergraduate work, for which he received departmental honors, focused on research in applied microeconomics, particularly in media economics, crime control, and public policy. He won the Criterion Fellowship in Economics for the top junior paper in the Economics Department. For his senior thesis, Miguel performed the first comprehensive economic study on crime control modalities, for which he received the John Glover Wilson Memorial Award for the best senior thesis in international economics or politics. At Princeton, Miguel also coauthored an NBER working paper with a professor in the Economics Department on the consequences of closing a newspaper. Miguel currently works as a consultant at Edgeworth Economics, a firm located in Dupont Circle in DC. In his free time, Miguel enjoys traveling to Europe, painting, playing guitar and piano, and swimming.

Heather Hoffman is a proud graduate of Oberlin College (Ohio). During her time at Oberlin, Heather tutored undergraduate students in numerous Economics and Politics courses, and received an Entrepreneurship award from the Creativity and Leadership Fund to pursue her interest in curriculum development at an independent high school in DC. As a math tutor in the Oberlin public schools, Heather worked with a diverse set of students and discovered her passion for teaching. She currently works at the Government Accountability Project, where she facilitates the development of multi-disciplinary college-level curricula on ethics in the workplace. We are really looking forward to working with Heather, especially within the context of our community program!

Svetlomir Miloslavov (Lio) graduated from George Mason University with a M.S. degree in Computer Science and was previously a New Bulgarian University Merit Scholar for being one of the top students in the Computer Science program. Lio works full time in the DC area and has aspirations to teach. Lio is always looking to develop new skills that he can share with others. This makes sense considering his staggering array of programming expertise in C, C++, C# and Java as well as Microsoft .NET framework, PHP, JavaScript, Ajax, HTML, XML, CSS and Enterprise Java Beans. His database experience includes Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and Oracle.  In attempt to keep up with the quickly changing industry, Lio is a member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and CSTA (Computer Science Teachers Association). We’re excited to have Lio on board!

Naomi Kane has a strong passion for making math accessible and interesting to students of all ages and levels. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is a huge Wolverines fan. In college, Naomi worked with elementary school students in under served communities in Michigan to help improve their mathematical competencies inside and outside of the classroom. She also tutored college athletes in English, Statistics and Psychology while overseeing student academic progress as a Learning Coordinator. Last year, she worked as an AmeriCorps members in a high-need middle school in Queens, New York improving attendance, behavior and course performance through targeted interventions. She is currently working as a secondary math teacher in DC Public Schools.

Matthew Bullough graduated from Cornell University in 2009 with a B.S. in Human Development while also completing the pre-medical curriculum. During his time at Cornell, he earned Dean’s List honors twice and played two varsity sports (Soccer and Sprint Football). Since graduating, Matthew has worked full time as a Research Assistant II in the Center for Cancer and Immunology Research at Children’s National Medical Center, where he studies Human Cytomegalovirus protein trafficking. Matthew has served as mentor and trainer to both high school and doctoral students during their semester long mentorship programs and laboratory rotations respectively. Whether on the soccer field or in a laboratory seminar, Matthew enjoys teaching, encouraging, and promoting success! In his free time, he also enjoys hiking, cycling, reading, and traveling.

Alex Savtchenko is a 2010 graduate from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a double degree in Peace, War, and Defense and International Studies. His senior thesis discussed the post-Soviet political and military strategy of contemporary Russia as it relates to the neighboring states of Ukraine and Georgia. Also during his final year at UNC, Alex co-taught a seminar series as a Teaching Assistant on contemporary international politics sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association. Currently, he works at a good-government non-profit in downtown DC providing consulting and programmatic support to federal agencies. Alex has been teaching and tutoring on a small scale since high school and is very excited to take his passion for helping others to the DC area!

Samuel Tomich graduated from Wesleyan University, Connecticut in 2010 with a B.A. in Chemistry. Throughout college Sam worked as a teaching assistant in the chemistry department during his junior and senior years. While his main subject is chemistry, Sam has always enjoyed studying and excelling at all natural science subjects. He is currently applying to medical school, and spends weekends working shifts as a volunteer EMT-B and playing basketball, tennis, and soccer. Other interests include music (all types) and reading.

Dexter Mackie has a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Dartmouth College, where he served as a tutor for introductory calculus courses after receiving a citation for his academic work in several-variable calculus. As a junior, he received the unique opportunity to tutor a class of 15 students in basic accounting while studying mathematics courses at Morehouse College during an exchange program. Back at Dartmouth, Dexter appreciated studying foreign languages, including Spanish, Italian and Latin, co-directed SHEBA Hip-Hop Dance Troupe, was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa Fraternity, and was a residential advisor for three years. He currently works as an office manager and certified optician for a private optometry practice in Southern Maryland, and looks forward to attending law school in 2012. In his spare time, Dexter enjoys playing squash, running, and watching horror films and psychological thrillers.

Morgan Salomon is a third year student at the Georgetown University School of Nursing and Health Sciences, studying Human Science and Psychology. Morgan works in a research lab at the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center, is a board member of the Georgetown Undergraduate Journal of Health Sciences, and sings in an a capella group on campus. After graduation from Georgetown, she plans to attend medical school. Her passion for teaching and working with young people developed over years of working as a tutor and camp counselor. Morgan has been a tutor for a wide array of subjects since middle school, most recently including her work as a General Chemistry tutor for the GU Academic Resource Center. She’s really looking forward to working with TutorDudes!

Boer Deng is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she double majored in Chemistry and English Literature. As an undergraduate, she was a tutor, study group leader, and lab instructor for General and Organic Chemistry, and was the recipient of the Paul Schafer and Douglas M. Bowen Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in Chemistry. She then worked at Harvard University as a Teaching Fellow in Organic Chemistry, and in drug discovery research. She also has experience in science writing, and her work has appeared in Dartmouth Medicine magazine. She is currently working at The New Republic magazine in Washington D.C.


Amanda Chicoli graduated from Brooklyn College – CUNY with a B.S. in Biology and Psychology. She is currently a graduate student in neuroscience at the University of Maryland. While a student, she has trained, tutored and mentored both high school students and college undergraduates in the lab. Aside from tutoring, she had been a science writer for her campus newspaper. Amanda enjoys explaining complex ideas in simple terms and sharing her interests with others!
